Making a 1970s apartment breathe peace and wellbeing.
Originally arranged according to the functional logic of its era, the flat was heavily compartmentalised, optimised for utility rather than for the experience of inhabiting space. The challenge lay in opening it up — creating more generous, flowing rooms that allowed movement, lightness and continuity.
Spaces are reorganised to strengthen the connection between interior and exterior, giving natural light and the terraces their rightful prominence, recovering the views of the Mediterranean and the city of Valencia.
The island becomes the new heart of the home.
Living room, dining room and kitchen form a single open space. From the entrance, the full width of the flat and its large windows are immediately perceived. The island takes on a dual role: it structures the space and serves as a point of encounter between residents and guests.
The new layout groups kitchen, entrance hall, bathrooms and storage into an L-shaped service band along the blind side of the flat.
Living room, dining room and bedrooms occupy the exterior perimeter, maximising daylight and bringing warmth and comfort to the main rooms.
With details such as concealed skirting, integrated panelled doors and hidden door frames, each construction element is reduced to its essence — reinforcing the desired continuity, free from visual barriers.
Together with warm, natural materials — Tivoli Navona travertine on the island and hand-applied microcement in the bathrooms — the project achieves a serene, balanced atmosphere.
